14 Aug CHCs Also Support Younger Members of Their Communities
Throughout the country, Community Health Centers have been providing needed health care to both adults and children. During August, many CHCs will hold Back-to-School events providing health screening and required immunizations while passing out donated backpacks, school supplies
Donna Huitt, from Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program (MEHOP) in Houston, TX, describes the events planned for school-aged children this summer.
Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program (MEHOP) has two great events planned for Matagorda and Wharton Counties this year to celebrate NHCW!
Wharton County will head back to school the second week of August this year, so we will kick off health center week a little early during the last week in July. During the week of the 26th-30th, we will give backpacks stuffed with goodies and gift cards to the kids after they complete their back-to-school doctor appointments for sports physicals and childhood immunizations. On the 26th, we will offer free haircuts for the kids and snow cones.
Matagorda County is also in for a treat this year! MEHOP partnered with the Bay City School District and the Bay City Police Department to host this year’s back-to-school bash!
The event will occur at Bay City High School and feature sports physicals, childhood immunizations, crosswalk and bicycle safety, community information and resources, a backpack giveaway, oral health screenings and an area where kids can pick out dress code approved clothing.
We are looking forward to helping the families of the communities we serve begin the school year with a great start!
