Thank You for Making #NHCW18 a Heroic Success

National Health Center Week 2018 was a tremendous success, thanks to each and every one of our advocates, and the generous support of our sponsors! More than 1,600 events were hosted in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The theme of National Health Center Week, “Celebrating Health Centers: Home of America’s Health Care Heroes” proved to be a driver of engagement and recognition. Speaking of recognition, congratulations again to Courtney Allen Cowardin, CNM, Associate Medical Director of Women’s Health at OneWorld Community Health Centers, Inc. on being honored as the National Association of Community Health Centers 2018 Health Center Hero.

Another bright spot during National Health Center Week was an announcement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) stating that $125 million in Quality Improvement grants would be awarded to 1,352 federally qualified community health centers across all U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia.Social_Infographic.JPG

As always, NHCW also drew the attention and support of countless state, local, and federal elected officials who joined the celebration in recognition of the critical role health centers play in their communities. Thousands of print, radio and broadcast media pieces also appeared throughout the week covering the wonderful events and celebrations happening around the nation. If you haven’t already, send media clips to

#NHCW18 and #CHCSuperpower collectively generated nearly 50 million impressions on social media, helping to spread the word and raise the visibility of health centers as the home of America’s health care heroes. Social media continues to be one of the most powerful tools to celebrate and raise awareness about the invaluable role of America’s Health Centers to their communities and the healthcare system as a whole. Get a taste of how the week went on social media by checking out HCAdvocacy’s Twitter moment.

As National Health Center Week continues to grow, it has evolved unofficially into “National Health Center Month,” meaning celebrations will continue throughout the month of August. We encourage Health Center Advocates to keep your National Health Center Week spirit and celebrations going for the remainder of the month! Don’t forget the submission period for the NHCW 2018 Picture & Video Contest is open until August 31st.  Submit pictures and videos for a chance to win! The contest is a great way to gain national visibility for your health center and showcase the great events and celebrations hosted during NHCW, and win awesome prizes!

Each year, NACHC organizes National Health Center Week, but it’s the health center heroes that turn the week into a celebration. We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the staff, board members and patients at health centers everywhere. Thank you!

Mark your calendars for National Health Center Week 2019, August 11th- 17th. We hope you’ll join us next year to make #NHCW19 the most successful year yet!
