Shamaal started as our new Grassroots Advocacy manager in August of 2019. He recently completed his masters degree in Health Policy & Management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. While there, Shamaal worked as a health coach and mentor for high schoolers in Harlem at BeWell Health. It was there that Shamaal gained an appreciation for community engagement and health education. His interests in health policy alongside his passion for community pushed him toward a career in advocacy.
Shamaal is from Alexandria, Virginia and received his Bachelors degree in Health Services at the University of Pittsburgh. During his undergraduate career, Shamaal studied abroad in Costa Rica to learn about Latin American health systems. His experiences there led him to pursue further education in public health Columbia University.
Shamaal is excited to work with all of NACHC’s members and advocate alongside them. He looks forward to promoting health equity for all health center patients and their communities through our collective efforts.
